banks holding foreclosures
banks holding foreclosures
So do the banks ever lose ?

When there are foreclosures in the housing market, It looks like the banks are losing money. Why is there a bailout for the banks. When the banks still hold the assets plus the bailout. Where did the banks ever lose out?

The banks do lose as we know recently. When times are going well the banks compete strongly against each other and some take on risks against collateral which may seem adequate for the situation at that time but when the market slows up it can be woefully inadequate. So when the collateral is called in it doesn’t meet the debt. Its as simple as that.

You mention ‘the bailout’. If the banks were allowed to fail then we, the people would have big problems. So we prop ‘em up.
