PLEASE HELP!!people that know gun laws in the state of california i live in north hollywood?
im 18 years old in nh california i was shot 3 times a couple months ago while walkin home from work i want to buy a hand gun but it must b a private sale please tell me what i have to do im loking for somthing small just for pretection tell me the steps n how i can find somone to sell me a firearm thank u

The way California laws are written you have to be 21 to buy a handgun, even a private party sale. That’s because private party sales must be recorded through a dealer and you have to be 21 for them to submit the DROS to the Department of Justice. However, an 18 year old may legally possess a handgun, if it is obtained through an “Operation of Law”. The only way you are likely to be able to do that is through an Intrafamilial Transfer–a parent, grandparent or sibling will have to give you the handgun.
Next problem is carrying it. You probably won’t be able to obtain a Concealed Carry License. State law actually allows you to obtain a CCL at 18, but as far as I know an 18 year old has never received one. You other problem is your residence in LA county–while they will issue a license, they issue very few and only under special circumstances.
